12 dead, 31 hurt in Fort Hood shooting

A U.S. soldier opened fire Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas, killing at least 11 people and wounding 31 others, military officials said. The gunman was shot to death, and two other soldiers were in custody.

NBC News’ Pete Williams reported that U.S. officials identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchinson, R-Texas, said military officials told her that the gunman, who was 39 or 40, was about to be deployed to Iraq and was “upset about it.”

Lt. Gen. Robert W. Cone, commanding general of the Army’s III Corps, who briefed President Barack Obama on the shootings, said the gunman used two handguns.

12 dead, 31 hurt in Fort Hood shooting

This is one of the most unbelievable things I have ever seen. I have been almost speechless. It has taken me all afternoon to regain my composure enough to be able to make a post that was a bit more than the rantings of a babbling mad man!

Here’s what we know; Army officials identified the gunman as Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan, an Army psychiatrist who had been promoted to major in May. According to some stories he specialized in combat related stress disorders, and that alone, causes me even greater distress. He’s supposed to be HELPING returning troops cope with their PTSD and combat related stress issues, not going bonkers and killing them.

I haven’t found anything regarding Maj. Malik Nadal Hasan having been previously deployed, he may not have been, I just don’t know and will NOT speculate. I will say this, Hasan had some very loose wiring in HIS head. His actions of today stand in testament.

It was unclear why the two other soldiers were taken into custody. A senior administration official told NBC News that the shootings could have been a criminal matter rather than a terrorism-related attack and that there was no intelligence to suggest a plot against Fort Hood.

OK, I know I am profiling, some will call me a racist or a bigot for saying this, but look at the guys name, Malik Nadal Hasan. He either is Islamic by birth or is a convert to the Muslim religion. I have heard, but have not conformed, that he is a convert. That is something else that gives me great concern. Given the rancor Islam has for *The Great Satan*, why would an Islamic convert want to serve this nation?

I also pose this possibility. What if there was a lot more to the Major’s shooting rampage than a few loose wires in his head? Suppose there was a hidden agenda afoot and Hasan was a tool of the Jihadists? According to Islam, it is their duty to convert the infidel or kill him.

Noting the Arabic nature of the gunman’s name, the Council on American-Islamic Relations, a Washington interest group, condemned “this cowardly attack in the strongest terms possible and ask that the perpetrators be punished to the full extent of the law.”

”No political or religious ideology could ever justify or excuse such wanton and indiscriminate violence,” the council said in a statement. “The attack was particularly heinous in that it targeted the all-volunteer army that protects our nation. American Muslims stand with our fellow citizens in offering both prayers for the victims and sincere condolences to the families of those killed or injured.”

Of course CAIR has condemned the murders. They have to. They can’t risk an angry American populace declaring WAR on every Muslim walking down the street. And I have to say, that WAR is not out of the equation from some of the things I have heard ‘through the grapevine’.

We have to hope that cooler heads prevail, but suppose they don’t? What then? Suppose there was some action taken in retribution by the American people? Has radical Islam not already declared WAR on us? Has radical Islam not already made their intentions VERY clear?

I’m not advocating anything, but the questions have got to be asked. At what point in time do Americans stand and defend this nation in the way it is intended by the 2nd amendment of the U.S. constitution?

I have a lot on my mind with this one. The deaths and wounding of these people, on an American Army base, within the continental United States. Something that has never happened before. And I can’t fathom an American military officer committing an act of this nature. Again, I am profiling, basing my words on the name of the shooter, but I suppose his what I perceive to be an allegiance to Islam, must trump all.

America is shocked and saddened by the events of today. An Army officer did the unthinkable, the unimaginable, he went against the oath he swore to this nation and to his brothers in arms. I think the coming days will be sad but interesting as this story fully develops.

I offer my most sincere condolences to the families of the dead and to the wounded, as well as to their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
